A few interesting facts about Barrett

Family

Barrett was one of seven children born and raised in Franklin Park. He is married to Jessica (Presperin) who has been an occupational therapist for 30 years working with children and adults with physical disabilities.  She is a certified assistive technology provider evaluating and recommending wheelchairs and seating products.  She is a frequent advocate concerning services for people with disabilities.  Barrett and Jessica have two sons attending the local elementary school, who are active in scouting, band, baseball, basketball, ice skating, rollerblading, and floor hockey.  Barrett has been their baseball coach and frequently volunteers at school activities to stay involved with his sons’ activities.

Community Service

Barrett has been involved in community service since he was a young Boy Scout.  His Eagle Scout project was to organize a walk-a-thon to raise over $5,000.00 for the Reed Mental Health Center.  He has volunteered to assist Frank Grieashamer with his annual food drive held in July for the Leyden Family Services Food Pantry.  He also provides his office as a gathering and collection center for Boy Scout Troop 158 for the annual Paul G. Ruch Memorial Food Drive held each December.  Barrett assisted with sandbagging during the September 2008 Flood when Franklin Park residents experienced severe flooding issues, and he is a consistent volunteer for events such as Relay for Life, PADS and Holiday meals for the underprivileged.

Military Service

Barrett enlisted in the United States Air Force after High School and served Honorably as an aircraft electrician.

Education

Barrett graduated from Holy Cross High school.  Under the mentorship of Dr. Andrew Prinz, Barrett received a degree majoring in Urban Studies from Elmhurst College with Honors.  He graduated from Chicago Kent College of Law with a Juris Doctorate Degree.  His continuing education revolves around city planning, real estate, and estate planning.
