A few interesting facts about Barrett
Family
Barrett was one of seven children born and raised in Franklin Park. His two sons
attended the local high school, were active in scouting, band, baseball, basketball, ice skating,
rollerblading, and floor hockey. Barrett was a past baseball coach when his sons played and frequently
volunteered for other school activities to stay involved with his sons’ activities.
Community Service
Barrett has been involved in community service since he was a young Boy Scout.
His Eagle Scout project was to organize a walk-a-thon to raise over $5,000.00 for the Reed Mental
Health Center. He has volunteered to assist Frank Grieashamer with his annual food drive held in
July for the Leyden Family Services Food Pantry. He has also provided his office in past years as
a gathering and collection center for Boy Scout Troop 158's Paul G. Ruch Memorial Food Drive.
Barrett assisted with sandbagging during the September 2008 Flood when Franklin Park residents
experienced severe flooding issues, and he is a consistent volunteer for events such as Relay for
Life, PADS and Holiday meals for the underprivileged.
Military Service
Barrett enlisted in the United States Air Force after High School and served
Honorably as an aircraft electrician.
Education
Barrett graduated from Holy Cross High school. Under the mentorship of Dr.
Andrew Prinz, Barrett received a degree majoring in Urban Studies
from Elmhurst College with Honors. He graduated from Chicago Kent
College of Law with a Juris Doctorate Degree. His continuing
education revolves around city planning, real estate, and estate planning.
